Stygian Leviathan - original by caramitten Stygian Leviathan - original by caramitten
This was the original black and white version of 'Stygian Leviathan', commissioned by White Wolf games over two years ago. I colored it just for shits 'n giggles a while back, and the file is in my gallery here somewhere, but I'm planning on redoing it in a way that doesn't--ahem--suck. ;)

This is great, did you know they discovered the real leviathan recently. It is supposed to be 40-60ft. and have teeth the size of a ruler.

ooh, I love this! I love how you designed this leviathan. The teeth are a great feature. I also love the tendrils on its face and neck. It shows that it's sensitive to its surroundings. One suggestion however: The eye is a bit far back on the head. You probably did that on purpose, and it looks great, but to get the full whale and/or monster affect, perhaps consider putting it under the second tendril from the snout, the second one on top of the head. idk, just a suggestion. Whale eyes are more around where you placed the eye I guess. Anyways, lovely shading, lovely idea, beautiful leviathan!!

The contrast on this one is rather nice; I like the way it gives the impression of the leviathan actually coming out of the murky depths of the Styx.

Leviathan is a VERY mysterious creature. I like your rendition of such a beautiful creature. For I do despise so many others, but yours, as stated, is very soothing to the metaphysical heart.

I love this... it has a lot of presence and appears to be monumental. It looks biologically sane and credible, which is tough to pull off. It's also a great angle - lots of depth perception. If you're going to do this over (which you may have already done) I would like to see it much bigger to make it even more terrifying - not that it looks small, but in art everything has to be overdone. This is a stellar creation - I'd love to see more of this species. Great job! I'm actually getting a wee bit attached... good lord...

i love the sense of movement this gives off. The creature itself seems so very alien, yet at the same time the vestiges of baleen wale make it seem like a plausible creature you'd find in our oceans. ^__^

I remember my days in Stygia well... preparing the chariots to invade Darfar, constantly worrying that Koth was going to march south to try and deprive my people of their freedom.

But that was long ago... but thanks for drawing this amazing rendition of one of my little babies, the Stygian Leviathon. Ah, they were so loving!
